Mida Creek

Mida Creek is an extensive interdidal inlet surrounded by Mangroves, situated between Malindi and Kilifi. This is an important area for passage and wintering waders,as well as being a haunt of several interesting herons and raptors.Although a visit here can be rewarding throughout the year, the most productive period is between November and March when the greatest concentrations of waders occur.

At high tide thousand of waders roost near the northern end, together with number of terns and egrets. This in itself can be spectacular, especially when hundreds of Crab Plovers are present, but closely packed masses makes observation of smaller species rather difficult at any distance.

The suggested time to visit is just before or after high tide, when feeding birds can be observed at close range. These includes Sand-plovers and Terek Sandpiper, the latter often being the most numerous species after Curlew Sandpiper and Grey Plover, plus less common waders such as Redshank,Curlew and Bar-tailed Godwit.
